I was curious: As a child from 7 or 8, maybe up until I 18 or so, I would rub my clit furiously against a chair or "object of my desire" as a form of masturbation. I would do this a few times a week. I wonder if this is one cause that could lead to enlarged labia because I'm pretty sure before puberty I was quite normal. Now I've grown to accept my big pussy lips, but I was embarassed if my naughty deeds might be to blame.
Dear liz,
Although I'm no physician I think your vigorous form of masturbation didn't have anything to do with your labia growing larger. Just rubbing your clit or labia against any objects doesn't affect their growth. Therefore, unless you also continuously stretched them over a long period of time, you shouldn't think your "naughty" deeds were the cause of your enlarged labia.
For most women enlarged labia are congenital, which means they were bound to have them because of their genetic make up. Labia growth usually starts when puberty hits and can sometimes carry on until a woman's late teens or even early twenties. In your case the timing seems to be very normal.
Speaking of those deeds, don't ever feel embarrassed for the ways you masturbate, no matter how different you think they are. Masturbation is a normal part of the grow-up process of any healthy individual. Never is it indecent or immoral and I'm sure everyone has her or his favorite way of doing it.
Neither does masturbation become any more naughty just because you're starting at a young age. I know a woman who began to play with herself even earlier. She remembers as far back as the age of five! It was her secret way of finding pleasure and releasing stress. Throughout her teens it helped her to concentrate on her studies (relief of sexual tension = less need for boys!) and to advance towards a professional career. Incidentally, all her clit rubbing didn't affect her labia or clit a single bit, ...they're tiny!
