Itch/Pain

Hello SexyLabia.com,

I've been experiencing a lot of itchiness and discomfort lately on my labia. I think this is because of the tanning I was doing over vacation in Florida. I followed the techniques listed on this site and my pussy has been very uncomfortable over the past few days. I've been using vagisil to try and help but it isn't working. The vagisil only made it worse. Now my pussy is swollen and red. Me and my boyfriend have big plans next week and I really wanna get this fixed. Can anybody suggest anything to try and help?

-Candice

Dear Candice,

As I wrote in my response to you by e-mail, it sounds like you have a sunburn down there. Vagisil helps against itchy and irritated skin, but a sunburn is a different story. The benzocaine in Vagisil actually makes the symptoms worse.

Some tips:

  • Take cool baths, or put cool compresses (wet cold wash cloths). You can mix baking soda in the water (helps against the itch).
  • Apply some soothing moisturizer lotion (no heavy perfumed ones). But don't overdo it; just enough to keep the skin from becoming dry.
  • Take ibuprofen (Advil) against the inflammation and the pain (read its directions).
  • Rest the affected area. This means no vaginal sex for the next days. Any friction will aggravate the inflammation and delay the healing.

For more info about treating a sunburn check out: Sunburn First Aid at the US National Library of Medicine
From that page:
- DO NOT apply petroleum jelly, benzocaine, lidocaine, or butter to the sunburn. They make the symptoms worse and can prevent healing.
- DO NOT wash burned skin with harsh soap.

That should get you back to normal within days. However, if it doesn't get better you should see a doctor.
